Grandma's Mountain Hideaway

The house was built in 1940 and has housed several families here over the last 80 years.  While her floors are a little sloped in places, she is solid – she has been lovingly restored by your hosts, Jamie and Mark.  We have made every effort to keep as much of the home as original as we could, and the original bedroom floors (newly exposed after decades under linoleum) are a testament to that effort.  We added a large picture window in the front room to better enjoy our mountain views.  The kitchen has been updated with a new floor, butcher block countertop, refinished cabinets and a new range hood.  The Hoosier cabinet (on the left as you enter the kitchen), is not original to this house but would have worked well in a country kitchen such as this.  The kitchen table was found locally and is approximately 160 years old (note the square nails holding the two very wide pine planks in place – this was typical of pre-Civil War furniture).  Take a look inside the table’s little drawer – it was lined long ago with the penmanship efforts of a long-forgotten student!
